- Ceramides are a natural component of the skin and when their levels are low, the skin suffers from dryness, irritation and skin problems. Ceramides in the skin can naturally decrease with age, as well as with exposure to excessive sun, wind, irritants and aggressive environments. Maintaining an optimal level of ceramides is extremely important for a healthy skin barrier, which in turn will keep the skin hydrated, soft and fresh.
